THE GREATEST EXPERIMENTER OF ALL TIME

 MICHAEL FARADAY(1791-1867)

Michael Faraday(1791-1867)was one of the greatest scientists of the 19th century. From his experiments came devices that led to the modern electric motor, generator and transformer. It was largely due to his efforts that electricity became highly useful for day to day life.

EARLY YEARS

Faraday was the son of a poor blacksmith, born in the village of Newington in Surrey, England. He started work as an apprentice bookbinder. Although Faraday received little formal education, he was one of most influential scientists in history.

HUMPHRY DAVY'S ASSITANTS

He became an assistant to the great scientists Humphry Davy. Michael Faraday was said to be Davy's greatest discovery.

BENZENE

Faraday discovered the important chemical benzene. Faraday drew huge crowds to his brilliant and entertaining Christmas lectures on science at the Royal Institutions in London.

FIRST PRIMITIVE ELECTRIC MOTOR

In 1821 Faraday showed that the magnetism created by an electric current would make a magnet move. Thus Faraday made the first primitive electric motor.

THE FIRST DYNAMO

In 1831 Faraday showed that when a magnet moves close to an electric wire, it creates, or induces, an electric current in the wire. Faraday made the first dynamo to generate electricity and so opened the way to the modern age of electricity.

ELECTROCHEMISTRY

He laid the basis for electrochemistry, another great modern industry. Faraday coined many technical words like ion, electrode, cathode, and anode etc.

FARADAY CAGE

A Faraday cage was discovered by Michael Faraday. Perhaps the most dramatic applications of Faraday cages is lighting safety in metallic cars or aircrafts. The metal shell of a microwave oven also acts as a Faraday cage and traps the microwaves inside the oven.

LEGANCY

His discoveries in electricity have continued to have a great influence on our daily lives. Albert Einstein kept a picture of Faraday on his study wall, alongside pictures of Isaac Newton and James Clerk Maxwell. Physicist Ernest Rutherford stated, "Faraday was one of the greatest scientific discoverers of all time".

INCREDIBLE BENEFITS OF CARROTS

BENEFITS OF EATING CARROTS Every time you consume something, you are either inviting a disease or preventing it. Hence, it is important to cultivate healthy eating habits that are sustainable. Carrots are not only delicious vegetables but also a good source of several nutrients including beta carotene and fibre. In fact, carrots were first grown as medicine (and not as food). Researchers are breeding carrots in different colors - including yellow, bright red and dark orange - to make them more appealing. What are the health benefits of eating carrots? Keep reading to find out. 1.Helps to prevent cancer  Carrots contain numerous phytochemicals that are well- studied for their anti-cancer properties. A few of these compounds include beta - carotene and other carotenoids. These compounds promote immunity and activate certain proteins that inhibit cancer cells. 2.Boosts eye health Are you or your child struggling with poor eyesight? Go to carrots to the rescue! Carrots have been regard...

THE FORGOTTEN SCIENTIST

NIKOLA TESLA Nikola Tesla was the famous scientist of 19th century. Nikola Tesla was born on 10th July 1856 in Smiljan, Austria (modern-day Croatia Southeast Europe). His father Milutin was a priest of the Serbian Orthodox Church. From early age, he could memorize entire books and store logarithms table in his brain. At the age of 19, he was studying electrical engineering at Polytechnic Institute at Gray in Austria. Tesla's general IQ was in a range from 160 to 200. Average Nikola Tesla IQ was 180. He made dozens of breakthrough in the production, transmission and application of electric power. He invented the first alternating current (AC) motor and developed AC generation and transmission technology. Though he was famous and respected, he was never able to translate his copious inventions into long-term financial success. In 1884, Tesla arrived in New York and was hired as an engineer at Thomas Alva Edison's Manhattan headquarters. After seeing his ingenuity, Edison told T...

UNUSUAL FLOWERS

UNUSUAL FLOWERS Flowers make the world so beautiful and colorful. There can hardly be a person who does not like flowers. However, Mother Nature has gifted us with a few unusual flowers too that you perhaps have never seen or heard about. LADY'S SLIPPER ORCHID This unique flower is very special, so much so that it had a personal bodyguard at the Chelsea Flower Show that is conducted annually. It has been given the nickname of "Lady's Slipper" because of its yellow petal that looks like a small clog or shoe. It is one of the most unusual flowers that you can see in the UK. LIVING STONE FLOWER The Lithops Weberi is native to South Africa. It is an amazing plant. They are called living stones for good reason. They look just like a couple of pebbles, and this camouflage prevents hungry, thirsty animals from gobbling them up during a drought. This plant sits very close to ground and has one or a number of bulbous leaves. whenever new leaves grow, white and yellow flowers ...
